Ellen Louis was born and raised in Pretoria, where she matriculated in 1992.
She received a bursary from the University of the Free State to study Law and received her B Juris degree in 1995 and her LLB degree in 1997, the same year she was admitted as an attorney and conveyance.

Ellen did her articles at Roussouws Attorneys in Bloemfontein from 1995-1997, with Roelie Rossouw as her principal.

Ellen and her family relocated to Cape Town, where she joined STBB Attorneys in Cape Town until resigning in 2009. She was in a small practice until she joined the Cape Town branch of Thomson Wilks Inc at the end of 2013 as a consultant attorney.

Ellen specialises in Property Law, Family Law, maintenance and general civil litigation.
